The Bluenext BN666 Bluetooth Headset is ideal to use with Skype for talking to friends acrross the internet. Setting it up is also fairly simple to do with this guide:

The Bluenext BN-01 bluetooth adaptor dongle comes with a software CD. Install this first.

The Bluesoleil software will install and creat desktop shortcuts on your PC.

Skypewill probably pop up a message saying ‘authorise this program to use with skype?’ Press Allow.

When finished, insert your bluetooth dongle into a spare USB port on your PC. This will then install the drivers.

Start up Skype.

Start up Bluesoleil IVT (unless already started)

Ensure your BN666 headset is turned off. Then put it into pairing mode by holding down the power button for at least 6 seconds (do not let go of the button until both red and blue lights are flashing )

In Bluesoleil choose ‘My Bluetooth’ > ‘Bluetooth Device Discovery’ this will then search for bluetooth devices nearby.

The BN666 should show up (if the name BN666 doesnt appear but a picture of a headset with digits beneath it does, this is probably it)

Right click on the headset and choose pair.

When prompted insert the pass key which is almost always ‘0000′ (four zeros) or else ‘1234′. Once paired there will be a red tick next to the BN666 icon.

The lights on the BN666 should now be flashing just blue.

In Bluesoleil, double click the icon that represents the BN666 (the earpiece icon in the top right hand side should turn yellow) and then right click the BN666 icon and choose ‘connect’ > ‘Bluetooth Headset Service’.

You should see a dotted line running from the headset to the orange sphere in Bluesoeil.

Now go to Skype and choose Tools>Options>General and audio settings.

Change the 3 drop down options to Bluetooth SCO. then save.

Use the skype test call to check that your headset is working.

With the launch of the new Apple iPad, many customers are enquiring as to what existing chargers and adaptors they can use with their new toy.

For the fastest charging, use the iPad’s included 10-Watt USB power adapter. This will fully charge the iPad in a few hours, even if you’re using the iPad at the same time.

When connected to a high-power USB port—such as the ones on recent Macs and the Sunwire USB adaptor —the iPad will charge, even during use, but more slowly. (We haven’t yet determined how much more slowly.) Some third-party powered USB hubs provide higher-power USB ports, but many don’t; similarly, the USB ports on most Windows PCs don’t provide this additional power.

When connected to an iPhone 3G mains adaptor or lower-power USB ports—those on older Macs, most Windows PCs, and most USB hubs (powered or unpowered)—the iPad’s battery is not charged while the iPad is awake, but is charged (again, slowly) when the iPad is asleep. What’s confusing here is that the message Not charging appears in the menu bar when the iPad is awake, which might lead you to assume that the offending USB port can never charge your iPad. But rest assured, Apple says: once you put the iPad to sleep, the battery will indeed charge. (If you could see the screen while the iPad was asleep, it might even display the charging icon. It’s the modern-day “Does the refrigerator light stay on when I close the door?” mystery.)

1. Make sure bluetooth works on your PC.

If you do not have bluetooth built in to your PC you will need to buy a dongle/adaptor. Be sure to install the drivers that came with the adapter (or check the manufacturer’s site or updated ones). The bluetooth drivers built into Windows XP dont support the headset profile (I’m not sure about Vista), so you’ll need to use the provided drivers (often made by a company called Widcomm or Bluesoleil).

2. Pair your headset with your computer.

This depends on both the bluetooth driver and the headset. On your computer, if you right click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray, you should have an option like ‘Add device’ or ‘Bluetooth Configuration Wizard.’ It will probably give you the option to choose the device you want to use or choose the service you want to use. You should be prompted to have your computer search for the new device. At that point put your headset into pairing mode–you’ll have to check your manual or online for how to do this, it’s generally holding down some combination of buttons to make the light change color / flash differently. When the computer recognizes the headset in pairing mode, it may ask you to type in a passkey. This is a four digit number and again, you may have to check your manual–it’ll be the same as it was to pair the headset with your phone, and is generally 0000 or 1234.

3. Make the headset your Skype audio device.

Once you’re paired, the white bluetooth logo in the system tray will change color to green. The bluetooth headset should then be one of the devices you can choose in the Sound and Audio devices in Control Panel and in Skype. in the skype client select Tools -> Options -> Sound Devices, and choose the “Bluetooth Audio” for both audio in and audio out.

4. Skype away.

Before you make any calls you might want to call the Skype Testing Service (echo123) to confirm your audio is working properly, and adjust your volumes if necessary (you’ll be able to control the volume within the Skype client and probably on your headset as well).

For setting up on Mac OSX please see this excellent article http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=210

We get asked a fair few times how to get files to and from mobile phones using the Bluetooth Dongle that we sell.

Not all mobile phones are the same but below is a general guide.

If you havent already, plug in the bluetooth dongle to your PC or laptop. The dongle makes use of the preinstalled drivers both inside the dongle and the pre-installed drives that come with Windows XP/Vista/7.

You should see a balloon message pop up on the bottom right hand side saying that it has found new hardware and is installing it. You should then see a small bluetooth icon in the system tray (bottom right next to the clock). This shows that the bluetooth device is installed and ready to use.

Sending files from phone to PC

Double click on the small Bluetooth icon in the ’system tray’ next to your PC’s clock (bottom right) and you will see the ‘Bluetooth Devices’ screen. Click on OPTIONS and ensure that ‘turn discovery on’ is ticked. Then, from your phone, choose to pair a new device. The dongle should appear on your phone. Choose it and use the pass code 0000 (four zeros). You may need to add the same passcode on the PC also. Once paired, right click the bluetooth icon on your PC (in the system tray) and choose ‘receive file’. Then from your phone choose the file you want to send and send it via bluetooth to the PC.

Sending files from PC to Phone

Double click on the small Bluetooth icon in the ’system tray’ next to your PC’s clock (bottom right) and you will see the ‘Bluetooth Devices’ screen.

Then go to the DEVICES tab and click ADD. This will then search for your phone (so ensure it is turned on and that your phone is discoverable in its settings.

When it finds your phone, choose it and then in the next screen tick the box that says ‘let me choose my passkey’ , and then put in 0000 (or whatever you like) into the box next to it. Then click next. On your phone you will be prompted to put in the passkey you just created on the PC (0000). Once you have done that, you should be paired. Then you can right click the Bluetooth icon and choose send file.
